Style Guide: Spring Summer 2017 Fashion Trends

Last fall, fashionable cities around the globe debuted many designers S/S 17’ collections during S/S 17’ Fashion Week. Now that it is January,  many retailers are beginning to get these collections on the shelf in time for Spring. In the world of fashion, everything is early (totally putting the term “fashionably late” to shame). It is time to start diving into the Spring/Summer trends and preparing ourselves to take off our many layers and begin to brighten up!

The "Pant-Shoe"

Some of the top shows from S/S 17’ fashion week included high-end designers such as Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Celine, and Balenciaga. One of the most interesting and fresh concepts that I noticed on the runway was Balenciaga’s skintight “pant-shoe”. I have never seen this trend before. This unique concept is guaranteed to catch the eye of many consumers along with celebrities and stylists. The pant-shoe is exactly what it sounds like, a skintight pant that does not stop at the ankle, but instead, continues over the foot like a pair of tights would.

Elle Woods once stated, “whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed”.  Spring/Summer 17’ could not agree with her more! Pink is making its comeback, in shades ranging from bubblegum to pastel. Pink is such a broad color that comes in so many shades and looks unique on all skin tones. This is what makes pink one of the most exciting colors. Whether it is an elegant evening gown or a flirty sundress, pink always lightens up the mood, which makes it perfect for the upcoming seasons.

Slogans

This is my personal favorite S/S 17’ trend and I hope it sticks around for seasons to come. Personally, I am not a fan of brand logos on a design (I find them to be tacky at times). Instead, I am loving this new slogan trend- and so are designers like Dior and Michael Kors. Dior made a strong statement by featuring a t-shirt with the phrase, “WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS”, eloquently plastered on the front and center. For those who may not want to have their personal opinions slapped on the front of their clothing, there are also sweet & simple options for the slogan trend. For example, a Michael Kors sweater with “love” on it.  The slogan trend is simply adorable, bold, and intriguing.

Featured, are just a handful of the variations of colors, fabrics, and silhouettes that will be trending in Spring/Summer 2017. It is always refreshing to see new trends emerge while old trends are reinvented or slowly simmering out. Be sure to keep up with Spring/Summer 2017 runway shows in order to see what may trickle down into retail stores- so you can be the first one to rock it!
